About Laura Creekmore

Our director of digital media, Laura Creekmore, has worked here so long that, frankly, she doesn't remember most of what she did before she came to Hammock. Though she does recall fondly her first job: Rolling the change from the Coke machines at her dad's grocery store in West Tennessee.

All that small-business experience comes in handy, since Laura oversees our work on NFIB.com, the website for the National Federation of Independent Business, the nation's leading lobbying group for small-business owners.

She has been involved on various levels on most of Hammock’s major projects over the years, including fields such as trucking, American history, small business and health care.

Between NFIB.com and Hammock's internal web projects, Laura also makes time to blog and administer her neighborhood's active listserv. She spends the rest of her free time as the family chauffeur, running from Brownie meetings to toddler play dates to volunteer commitments she has with the Junior League of Nashville, East Nashville Cooperative Ministry and her church.

Waiting for web-based apps to be truly convenient

We spent a lot of time this fall working on a new site for one of our clients. The site is really fabulous in so many ways -- it takes advantage of many leading social technologies available today, including Flickr, Revver and Google Reader. And that's not the inconvenient part. That's the very convenient part.

The challenge is this: I also use most of these services personally. And in many instances, I have a work account for them, as well. And it's just not convenient yet -- maybe it will never be -- to switch from one account you use on a web-based app to another.

In the course of all this, Rex and I were talking about del.icio.us. We were getting ready to use it on this site, and talking about how to keep it separate from the multiple del.icio.us accounts we both already have.

Me: Let me ask you this. Isn't there some way to --

Rex: No. No there's not.

Hahaha. He already knew what I was going to ask. If you are bookmarking for several different projects, can't you easily switch between your accounts, right there at the point of bookmarking?

No. No you can't.

Ah well. We can do so much now to hook our thoughts, words, images and experiences into those of our friends and colleagues. One day maybe it will be seamless, too.
