Every morning I start my day at the office scanning Twitter, my Google Reader and various news sites for the latest children's health news. Some days, it's a slow news day. But not today. This morning at least three headlines grabbed my attention: Extreme obesity among children is more prevalent than previously thought; Pepsi is pulling sugary sodas and sports drinks from schools worldwide, and the FDA finally limited tobacco companies' ability to market to teens.
So what’s with the focus on children's health at Hammock headquarters? It’s all part of our new relationship with HealthTeacher, a provider of online K–12 health education resources used by nearly 20,000 teachers and 8,000 schools nationwide.
Every day we post on HealthTeacher.com, Twitter and Facebook links to the top children’s health headlines. But not just any children’s health headlines—only relevant ones that can be tied back to the online curricula available on HealthTeacher.com.
We also manage, write and distribute HealthTeacher’s monthly teacher and parent email newsletters, offering tools, tips and healthy practices on topics like nutrition, dental health, recycling and conservation, summer safety and more. The newsletters reach more than 25,000 readers nationwide.
We're proud to be a partner with HealthTeacher in promoting good health across the nation. We're learning a lot at the same time!
