The Hammorati have of late heard Bill Hudgins talk about his ongoing barn-clearing project, and frequent weekend forays to Gallatin, Tenn.'s, "resource authority," aka, the dump, with truckloads of jetsam. A warming spell the first weekend in February made it possible to work more or less in shirtsleeves, and the sleeves he chose were those attached to a Hammock T-shirt.

| Here's Bill with his next work in progress, a mid-1950s vintage Ford 600 tractor. Notice the spiffy barn work attire. | A manure spreader is an essential item for a former news reporter. We understand CBS is interested in it as a retirement gift for a certain anchor, but Hudge is giving Fox first dibs. |
Bill has named this incarcerated bicycle "Christine," in homage to the Stephen King novel. The cage was all but invisible under a ton of decrepit lumber.
Once filled with hay, the loft had become an incredibly inconvenient dumping ground for scrap lumber, barrels and discarded doors. The barn was built more than 60 years ago, probably closer to 75 or 80.

How many kinds of ratsnakes have you found? Don't kill them.

I do these kinds of projects in the winter precisely so I won't encounter (too many) creepy crawlers like snakes, brown recluses, etc. But I could make you a deal on a raccoon or a groundhog.
